BIOGRAPHY "The deliriously sugary hook with the magnificently dysfunctional underbelly" is how one critic described this band's calling card. Although it sounds like a private eye's secretary, Veronica Speedwell is the name of a flower in your parents' garden. The flower has existed probably since the Cretaceous times, the band was formed in 1997. Four independent EPs later - The Wrecking Yard , Famous Gossips, Vigilante and the shiny new The Good Fight, this 5-piece is still belabouring the point, delivering an altrock edge with a groove. The Speedwells know many grizzly soundmen and are not afraid of an industrial fan. In the frothy wake of Montreal's premier battle of the bands, the single "Drive" went to number 2 on Montreal's commercial radio charts. They have showcased at Toronto's Canadian Music Week and are the accidental darlings of the Canadian tv-film soundtrack, with music featured on 2 seasons of CBC's (cancelled but amazing) teen dramedy 'Our Hero', the documentary 'The Dirty Dish', and the indie film 'That's Life'. Plans for the future include general rock posing and recording like mad bagladies at keyboardist Chris's studio 'The Sausage Factory'. |
